Project W.A.R.M

(Weather Amnesty Response Ministry)

What:

Many churches, including First United Methodist, Northwest United Methodist, Clay United Methodist, and Grace United Methodist have partnered to initiate a ministry held at First Church to provide overnight weather protection during the coldest times of the year for the homeless population.

When:

The Project WARM weather amnesty shelter will be open every night from December 1, 2011 to March 15, 2012, 8pm to 8am, in the Community Room at First UMC in downtown South Bend (333 N. Main Street).

Volunteer Opportunities:

There are volunteer opportunities available every evening. Evening volunteers from 7:30-9pm will help staff check in our homeless friends and get them settled for the evening. There are three ways to serve:

1).  Come, drop off or serve a simple meal for 22 people (IE. sandwiches, soup, or a casserole).

Please include paper products with your meal.  Drinks are not necessary.

2).  The two evening volunteers come and fellowship with the guests, pray with guests

before the evening meal, play a game of chess or help settle the guest in for the night.

The volunteers are there to love and support the guests.

3).  Donations are also needed to support this project.  Requested items include gloves,

tube socks, warm clothing and non-perishable SNACK items such as tuna kits,

cheese crackers, peanut butter crackers, granola bars, breakfast bars, string cheese

           or 100% juice boxes.

Donations can be dropped off at one of the churches listed above.
